Since 2001, the German government’s Caucasus Initiative has been promoting cross-border cooperation between the South Caucasus countries of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia. In 2017, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH within the scope of its regional programme Legal Approximation towards European Standards in the South Caucasus (LAtESt) is sponsoring a regional academy for the 8th time.
The Regional Academy - Transformation Lawyers - Legal dialogue for legal transformation aims to create a scientific and practice-oriented atmosphere which will facilitate a professional dialogue and intensive exchange of information among the participants. All courses are taught in English. Up to a total of 21 participants from all three countries will engage in a legal dialogue on legal transformation in the South Caucasus and intensify their legal knowledge and legal practice skills.
In recent years, the Regional Academy was held at the beginning of the year and was called “Winter Academy”. In 2015, the academy took place in summer and to be independent of seasons, GIZ decided to call it “Regional Academy” afterwards.
